In October 2017 HRH Princess Alexandra opened the St. Hugh’s Education Centre at the Holy Cross Hospital in Haslemere, Surrey.

The Hospital provides in-patient services for 40 long-stay patients who have severe and complex neurological disabilities. Their quality of life entirely depends on the availability of highly trained staff, special buildings and equipment.

Macallan Penfold were appointed to design a new building that has not only significantly improved the available training and study facilities, but also provided much-needed administration offices that have brought support services staff together and freed-up valuable space for primary care functions.

The building is arranged on two levels and takes advantage of the sloping site to provide direct level access to the existing hospital at both ground and first floor, thereby negating the expense of separate lift access.

The construction value of the project was £900,000.
